London advises against trucks heading to the port of Dover for now

London, Dec 22 (EFE) .- The British Government has warned transport companies on Tuesday not to send trucks to Kent, the English county where the port of Dover is located, for now, despite the fact that France has advanced that it will reopen this midnight the steps of the English Channel.

There has been “good progress and an agreement with the French government on the borders,” British Transport Minister Grant Shapps reported on Twitter, stressing that “for the moment carriers should not head towards Kent tonight.”

Paris will require a negative coronavirus test from truck drivers, French citizens and residents of France to enter its territory from the United Kingdom, in order to prevent the spread of a new variant of the coronavirus detected in England.

London, for its part, is working on a program for the army to help carry out the necessary tests to the drivers of trucks trapped in the motorways and parking lots near Dover, according to British media.

More than 1,500 heavy vehicles have been immobilized in that area, according to the British Home Office, while the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) estimates that at least 4,000 trucks that had planned to cross the canal these days have been affected by the restrictions. EFE
