Lombardy has brought forward the date on which it will begin vaccinating the elderly, from the end of March to February 24

Lombardy Councilor for Welfare Letizia Moratti announced that the expected date for the start of coronavirus vaccinations for seniors over 80 years old will be brought forward by one month, from the end of March to 24 February. Last Wednesday in the health committee Moratti had said that people over 80 would be included in phase 2 of the vaccination campaign and that the start of administration was set at the end of March, between 25 and 26. During the Regional Council which was held this morningon the other hand, a change in timing was communicated and in particular the advance of the start of administration to the elderly.

The second news communicated by Moratti is the involvement of the former head of Civil Protection Guido Bertolaso ​​who will be part of a “steering committee” for the management of the vaccination plan. The committee will include the president Attilio Fontana, the councilor Moratti, the councilor for civil protection Pietro Foroni and the general director of Welfare, Marco Trivelli. «The start of the massive phase of vaccinations in Lombardy requires a widespread information activity for the citizen. Within a week the details of the registration and booking procedures will be provided, within two weeks the access to the dedicated portal will be active for the interested groups ”, explained Moratti.

According to the numbers released by the Region, Lombardy expects to receive 675,952 doses of Pfizer (378 thousand), Moderna (115 thousand) and Astrazeneca (about 182 thousand) by the end of February. At the moment, 300,000 doses of the vaccine have been administered in Lombardy, of which 68,000 second doses.
