From the very first minutes of the battle, it became clear that this was going to be a serious battle. Ortiz, having excellent anthropometry, left a good impression.
Lomachenko worked in his usual way at high speed, went over his shoulder and landed resounding blows. Vasily moved well, quickly avoided attempts to hit and hit the opponent. Ortiz tried to answer, but it only worked as number two.
As the second half of the fight began, it became apparent that Ortiz was visibly tired. Lomachenko was clearly more physically resilient. Constant hits, aggression, speed. Ortiz got hooked, but he didn’t give up.
This is not to say that Lomachenko had a lot of dominance. However, Vasily had an advantage in the battle, he took the opponent steadily and tangibly. Ortiz did very well in the fight, but he didn’t do enough to win.
Counting the referee’s notes resolved Vasily’s advantage. True, the judges did not agree on how many rounds the Ukrainian won (7-5, 8-4 and 9-3).
In a very difficult fight, Vasily Lomachenko won on points!
