Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan revealed that the new electric vehicle incentive plan will be decided next week. If there is no change in plans, a decision regarding electric vehicle incentives will be announced on Monday, although he did not specify an exact timetable.
“Yes, it’s still running, we’re waiting for it now, hopefully next week the incentive policy (electric vehicles) will come out. Yes. Not subsidies. Incentives given to motorbikes and cars,” Luhut said as quoted Saturday (4/3/2023).
“Yes, later on Monday we will see. Later it will be announced, just wait,” he said.
On the other hand, he added, the progress of investment negotiations with Tesla is still ongoing. It’s just that, there is a possibility that Tesla’s investment will only be determined after the government issues an electric vehicle incentive policy.
But unfortunately, Luhut did not elaborate on the relationship between Tesla’s negotiations and the government’s electric vehicle incentive policy.
“Anyway, the subject matter is in these two (motorcycle and electric car incentives),” he said.
In addition, when asked about Tesla’s move to build its factory in Mexico, according to him, that would not be a problem for Tesla’s investment agreement with Indonesia.
“Indeed, Mexico is for an American backyard, right, so it doesn’t matter,” he said.
He said, when Tesla entered Indonesia, he had to enter into the exoticism of electric vehicles. That is, Tesla was asked to make a complete factory, both from batteries to electric cars.
“If a car has to be equipped with a battery, it can’t just be a battery. The battery will also be under the chassis,” said Luhut.
