Over 40 direct trains connect destinations in Germany and Switzerland every day. Most connections run without a scheduled change in Basel. If trains are delayed, a change in Basel SBB may be necessary at short notice.
In addition to connections with planned transfers in Basel, a change in Basel SBB may be necessary at short notice as a measure for delayed trains from Germany. Trains from Germany are integrated into the regular timetable in Switzerland. If they were to run late in Switzerland, the delay would be transferred to the punctuality of trains within Switzerland. As a result, significantly more travelers would be affected by delays than those who travel on the delayed train.
This is why trains from Germany that arrive in Switzerland with a delay of more than 10 to 15 minutes (depending on the train and destination) often end up in Basel SBB. Around 90 percent of these can be replaced by a replacement train for the route within Switzerland, which runs on time.
This means that travellers who use connections within Switzerland reach their destination on time.
