Loire Yellow Snow and Ice Alert: Pilat to Get 10 cm, Ski Resorts Still Waiting

Météo France has placed the Loire on yellow alert for snow and ice. The prefecture calls for vigilance.

She would finally make her return. A big month after having whitened the few peaks of the department, the snow should return in the next few hours.

Météo France has decided to place the Loire on yellow alert this Saturday January 6 and Sunday January 7 for snow and ice.

Snow in the plains but not in Roannais

Depending on the weather forecast, between 1 and 5 centimeters are expected in the plains. On the Roannais side, no powder fall is expected, but some gusts of wind can reach 50 km/h. So nothing to worry about. However, it could make its appearance in the north of the Loire this Monday, January 8 in the morning.

The weather conditions should therefore not disrupt the summit meeting between US Feurs and Saint-Priest this Sunday late afternoon.

10 cm in Pilat

Pilat will be much more affected than the rest of the territory. About 10 centimeters of snow are expected by the end of the weekend.

The Loire prefecture asks users to exercise great caution and reminds them of the traffic rules in difficult conditions. “Reduce your speed, respect safety distances and always give priority to snow removal and salting equipment. In the event of snowfall, front fog lights can replace or complement the dipped headlights.”

And the ski resorts?

In Chalmazel, a small film covered the grass in the station. But the thickness does not allow skiing. However, one of the lifts is open.

Same situation at Col de la Loge. The coat is thicker, but does not allow winter practices. “3 to 4 cm of snow fell last night (January 5 to 6, 2024). The snow cover is too thin to open the slopes. Further snowfall is expected in the following days, we will keep you informed of the evolution of the thickness of the snow layer”, indicates the station on its site Internetthis Saturday, January 6.

Finally, at the Lodge of the Guards, the lack of snow also hampers the various activities.
