The Ministry of the Interior and Road Safety have communicated the final assessment of the number of people killed and injured on the roads in 2020. In this year marked by Covid-19 and confinements, a “Exceptional decline” was observed.
Road mortality is down 21% compared to 2019. The department of Loire is no exception, all indicators are on the downside.
Figures in the Loire
In 2020, 23 people lost their lives in a road accident in the Loire. This toll is more or less the same as last year: 24 people died on the road in 2019.
However, the number of injured has fallen sharply. The balance sheet counts 458 people injured in a road accident, up from 607 in 2019.
Fewer deaths in 2020 than in 1925
Nationally, the report notes a -19% drop in the number of accidents, as well as a -20% drop in the number of injuries.
In total, 2,541 people died on the roads in 2020 (1,991 men and 550 women). This is 703 fewer killed than in 2019, but it is also a lower toll than the year… 1925, when 2,646 people were killed in an accident.
