A former driver, he has one victory in GP2, three in Formula E, and 20 Formula 1 GPs under his belt, raced between 2011 and 2012, first for Marussia and then for Lotus. He retired at the end of the 2019-20 season and at Mercedes he worked alongside the team principal, Toto Wolffso much so that he seemed destined to succeed him. Instead, he took the road to Maranello.
