Canoeist Fuksa smoothly won Friday’s 1000 meter race and it was not yet in full swing. If he succeeds in the semifinals, he will start the decisive race at 4:53 CEST.

He already has six World Championship medals at home, but he missed the Olympic medal five years ago in Rio de Janeiro. His actions will also be closely watched on the Sea Forest Waterway by the head of the Olympic mission, Martin Doktor, who won two gold medals in a canoe in Atlanta almost exactly 25 years ago.

Czech Olympic participation on Saturday at the Tokyo Olympics:
1:20 athletics – women’s marathon (goal): Joglová, Hrochová, Vrabcová Nývltová
0:30 golf – women – final 4th round: Spilková
2:44 speed canoeing – semifinal C1 1000 m men: M. Fuksa (the final is on the program in 4:53)
7:30 modern pentathlon – men: Kuf, Vlach
8:48 track cycling – keirin men: Puppets
13:00 Final Athletics – Javelin Men: Vadlejch, Veselý

The only Czech track cyclist at the Bábek Games will present himself in his main discipline keirin, in which he won bronze at the World Championships in 2017. The Japanese environment is not unknown to him, he has been riding the prestigious Keirin League here for two years, but due to coronavirus he has been without an official race for nine months.

From each six-member race, the two best will advance directly to the quarterfinals, the others will have to make repairs. The medalists will be decided on Sunday. In his race, Bábek has one of the biggest stars, the darling of the domestic audience, Jutu Wakimot, a silver medalist from the last World Cup.

Modern pentathlete Kuf is sixth in the Olympic fencing round. His biggest success so far was the bronze medal from the World Cup in 2014. In previous games, he did not finish the course and finished last. The second pentathlete Martin Vlach is 22nd.

The Czech spears have not made much of themselves known this season, but they seem to have timed their form well. In qualifying, they both improved their highs this year, and especially Vadlejch threw just below the 85-meter mark to remember his silver medal from the World Cup four years ago.

Veselý would also like to follow up on the performances that earned him bronze at the London Games and gold at the World Championships a year later. Experience speaks in his favor, as it will be his fourth Olympic final for him, none of the twelve advancers have so many.

Even before midnight, women set off for the marathon in Sapporo. Kenyan Jepchirchir won over compatriot Kosgei and the surprise of the race – American Seidel.

Marcela Joglová (52nd) and Tereza Hrochová finish with a loss. The Czech record holder Eva Vrabcová Nývltová gave up under five laps during her fifth start. She represented three times at the Winter Games in cross-country skiing, five years ago in Rio de Janeiro she was 26th on the marathon track.

After three quarters of the tournament, golfer Klára Spilková is in a divided 25th place with three shots under par, which is a significantly better result than would correspond to her position on the reduced rankings. The American with Czech roots Nelly Kordová continues to lead. The tournament can be extended until Sunday or terminated prematurely due to the looming Saturday storms.
