Logitech announces Logi Bolt, a wireless protocol derived from Bluetooth Low Energy that will be used for business mice and keyboards. The technology is introduced in the new MX Master 3 for Business and Logitech MX Keys for Business.
Logitech hopes with Logi Bolt to mainly cater to the business market. It has established a protocol that allows wireless products such as mice and keyboards to communicate. The protocol is derived from Bluetooth Low Energy and must ensure a fast, stable and energy-efficient connection. With Logi Bolt, a closed secure connection can be made between the control device and the computer, although Logitech does not want to explain how exactly the connection is secured. According to the company, the security meets the requirements of security mode 1, level 4 of the FIPS regulation. Logi Bolt at least uses frequency hopping, which should ensure that the connection remains stable and fast, even if many Bluetooth connections are active simultaneously in a small space such as an office. According to Logitech, Logi Bolt can cover a distance of ten meters.
To make Logi Bolt suitable for business use, Logitech provides an app that is not only aimed at users, but also at system administrators. System administrators can force certain settings via the app and update them live. Logi Bolt can handle Windows, Linux, macOS and Chrome OS for now. Incidentally, users can choose whether to connect the mouse or keyboard via Logi Bolt or via Bluetooth Low Energy. With the latter option, the products can also be used with Android and iOS.
Logi Bolt is introduced in a new business line of existing mice and keyboards. In addition to the MX Master 3 for Business and Logitech MX Keys for Business, there will be an MX Anywhere 3 for Business, Ergo K860 Split Keyboard for Business and M575 Wireless Trackballl Mouse for Business. The new variants come with a different dongle than the existing models. As with the existing models, it is a USB-A dongle. Logitech does not have a USB-C dongle available, but does include a USB-C to USB-A adapter. Logitech will bring more Logi Bolt products to the market, all of which will be aimed at the business market for now. However, the company believes it will also use Logi Bolt in consumer products in the future. The Logi Bolt products can be recognized by their own logo.
