Login problems at Swiss media due to hacker attack – News

  • A hacker attack has paralyzed the OneLog login platform used by numerous Swiss media companies.
  • According to a statement from the Tamedia publishing house, registration via OneLog has no longer been possible since Thursday.
  • OneLog is currently trying to find a solution and says it is in contact with the authorities.

The contents of the Tamedia titles are temporarily freely accessible and access to the e-papers is open, as stated in Tamedia’s announcement. Other affected media companies also took such measures to ensure that subscribers can access all content. But it’s not just accessing content that’s difficult. In some cases, articles cannot be commented on as usual because this option is also linked to a login using OneLog.

Login platform for many Swiss media companies

The OneLog service, which was launched a little over three years ago, is used by more than 40 online portals, including those of the major media companies Tamedia, Ringier and SRG.

Although CH Media and NZZ are involved in the OneLog joint venture, they have not yet introduced the login solution and are therefore not affected by the current problems.

According to the statement, OneLog only manages the users’ login data. According to current knowledge, other data is neither affected nor at risk. They are working hard to restore the affected services as quickly as possible and are also in contact with the authorities.

Not the first attack on Swiss media companies

It is currently not publicly known what type of cyberattack was carried out on OneLog. It is conceivable that the login data was deleted or encrypted for the purpose of an extortion attempt.

There was already a serious hacker attack on Swiss media companies last year. NZZ and CH Media were affected. After an apparently unsuccessful blackmail attempt, the unknown hackers published a large number of documents that they captured in the attack. This also included data from employees and customers.
