TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – WhatsApp is rumored to be adding new security features to protect user accounts from potential fraud, hacking, and other malicious motives. WhatsApp’s new feature is called ‘Login Approval’, and is currently under development.
This new feature will strengthen the two-step verification already offered by this messaging platform from Meta. Previously WhatsApp also announced a dual verification code which is also still in development.
According to WhatsApp feature tracker report WABetaInfo, the latest feature is in WhatsApp beta version 2.22.17.22 and could be released as part of a future update. The ‘Login Approval’ feature will send users an in-app alert when another user tries to access or log into their account from another location using a different device.
Another user can only log in after approval has been given from the handset on which the account has been signed in first. So, the account owner can deny and prevent other people’s access to his account which may originate from his own fault by sharing a six-digit security code. Or he has been a victim of phishing.
This feature is said to reduce the risk of user accounts and information being hijacked or stolen. According to the alleged screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, a warning will later be present accompanied by data on the time and type of device used to infiltrate.
Another candidate for WhatsApp’s new features
According to recent reports, WhatsApp is also working on adding the ability to view previous group members with the beta version of its iOS client. The update is reportedly released to a limited number of beta testers. A wider rollout of the feature to more beta testers could happen in the coming weeks.
