Logan Sargent, important weekend of betting on F1 debut at Williams[F1-Gate.com]

Logan Sargent enters the final round of FIA-F2 for an F1 debut with Williams F1 in 2023.

Williams has already announced that Logan Sargent will be appointed as an F1 driver in 2023 provided he obtains an F1 super licence. Sargent now has 29 of the 40 license points required for an F1 superlicence.

If you complete the 100km race in FP1 of the Abu Dhabi F1 GP this weekend, you will get 30 super license points, and if you finish FIA-F2 with 10 points in the standings of 6th or above, you will be in Williams in 2023. The debut in F1 is decided. Logan Sargent, currently 3rd classified, risks ending up numerically in 10th place.

Williams technical director François-Xavier Demaison said: “I think it’s a difficult situation for him because he has to get results. We’ve put a lot of pressure on him.”

“It’s difficult to judge him in FP1 because he has to get his license because the only goal is to reach 100km and score points.”

“I don’t think it’s fair to judge him on that and we’ll have to wait until the next test in Abu Dhabi.”

“But I think he’s a fast driver and he’s not stupid, so I’m sure we can do something with him in the future.”

“I can’t wait to test the young driver with Williams after the last free practice of the year,” said Logan Sargent.

“It was a great opportunity to get behind the wheel of the FW44 for four race weekends. During the sessions I learned a lot about the new generation car compared to what I drove in last year’s Young Drivers Test. In addition to this weekend’s FP1 , we are focused on the last race of the Formula 2 season”.

Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson said: “Logan will be driving the FW44 again, but this time in Nicholas’ car in FP1. I will be driving every day,” he commented.

“His main focus this weekend will be the finale of his F2 season, but his time in the F1 car will be invaluable as he continues to prepare for the future.”

“Alex will drive the other car in post-season testing, both with Pirelli 2023 tyres, gaining important experience that will guide our preparations for 2023 pre-season testing in Bahrain. It will happen.”
