AMERSFOORT The Amersfoort World Jazz Festival will take place this year from 5 to 15 August. That’s how the jazz sounds were heard on the Observant city stage yesterday, with two performances by two different bands: The Loet van der Lee Quintet and New York Round Midnight.
The weather was not good yesterday. It rained, so it also rained in the courtyard of the Observant. Large umbrellas had been set up, but that was not sufficient everywhere, so smaller umbrellas were also distributed for those who were not completely dry.
Nevertheless, it was a pleasant evening with good jazz music, says journalist Rinus van Denderen. The public was able to enjoy again. Due to corona, a maximum of sixty people were allowed, so the courtyard was full.
HLVDLQ The Loet van der Lee Quintet has been around since 1994 and has occasionally changed line-up over the years, but in 2018/2019 the current line-up began to take shape. In the jazz cafés of Amsterdam, the veteran Loet van der Lee (1968) met a group of young and passionate jazz musicians. There was an immediate click with the recently graduated and extremely talented musicians Tim Hennekes, Cas Jiskoot and Gideon Tazelaar. Finally, the piano virtuoso Sebastiaan van Bavel was an obvious addition.
Line-up: Tim Hennekes – drums, Cas Jiskoot – bass, Sebastiaan van Bavel – piano, Gideon Tazelaar – tenor saxophone
