Loco Looper, a game with holographic sets and without glasses

No need for 3D glasses or holographic screen to appreciate the volume effects of Loco Looper! This game, still in development, is a train simulation which mischievously exploits the iPhone’s gyroscope: the movements “move” the scenery, which gives this striking 3D impression.

James Vanas, the developer, explains that he tested the tracking head movement which is possible with the TrueDepth camera, but it didn’t work any better. Insufficient in any case to justify the use of necessary resources and the request for authorization to use the camera. Loco Looper should be finished by the Christmas holidays.

This effect is reminiscent of what the now defunct Amazon Fire Phone was capable of, built around an expensive camera system (5 up front!) To give a holographic illusion (there was also, of course, , Nintendo’s 3DS with its special screen). This isn’t the first time that a developer has harnessed the capabilities of the iPhone to create this parallax effect (here for example), but Loco Looper seems to be making the most of it.
