Lockheed Martin’s Sixth Generation Fighter: Unveiling Details and Progress of the NGAD Program

Lockheed Martin engineers are busy developing the sixth generation fighter. This year, the Skunk Works division, which is engaged in the implementation of promising projects, will be 80 years old. In honor of the anniversary date, the North American defense giant unveiled a sketch of a mysterious aircraft.

Details

Apparently, it depicts a fighter that will form the basis of a large-scale NGAD program. In addition to the aircraft, it involves the development of a “family of families” with the latest weapons, technologies, sensors and autonomous CCA drones.

The contract for the design of fighters under the NGAB will be signed by the US Air Force in 2024. At the moment there are at least three prototypes. They were developed by Northrop Grumman, Boeing and Lockheed Martin. One of the prototypes has already made its first flight. Rumor has it that the number of participants in the NGAD program has been reduced to two.

The new aircraft will replace the F-22. The unit cost will be hundreds of millions of dollars. For comparison: one F-35 costs more than 200 million USD. A total of 200 aircraft will be produced.
