Social restrictions during the pandemic did not exacerbate the death rate and ill health, researchers say. Critics, also in the Netherlands, sometimes state that the lockdowns cause more damage than Covid-19 itself.
But there is little evidence that the cure is worse than the disease. This is evident from an analysis of global health data.
Impact lockdowns
Researchers at Duke University analyzed the impact of the lockdowns on death rates, health services and mental health worldwide. They zoomed in on countries that imposed heavy restrictions and had few corona cases, to assess whether the intervention caused excessive deaths. They didn’t look at economic consequences.
