Locarno Film Festival honors US actor Matt Dillon for his life’s work

Matt Dillon receives the Lifetime Achievement Award for his life’s work at this year’s Locarno Film Festival. Despite his success, the 58-year-old actor is always new Challenges tackled, the festival director justifies the award.

The award ceremony will take place on August 4th on the Piazza Grande in Locarno, as the festival announced on Tuesday. Artistic director Giona Nazzaro quoted Matt Dillon as an artist who has achieved “enduring success and popularity among generations without ever ceasing to tackle new challenges and discover new forms of expression”. He embodies “with aplomb an idea of ​​the artist and of American cinema that we love very much: the restlessness of youth and the freedom of maturity.”

The 58-year-old American actor made his screen debut at the age of 14 in the cult classic Over the Edge (1979). In his subsequent career, Dillon enjoyed success in both genre films and auteur cinema, working with directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, Gus Van Sant and Lars Von Trier. His most formative films include “Rumble Fish” (1983), “Drugstore Cowboy” (1989), “Wild Things” (1998), “There’s Something About Mary” (1998), “Crash” (2004), “Factotum” ( 2005) and The House That Jack Built (2018).
