The HB Kinzigtal handball players celebrated their third win in a row on Sunday evening with their derby victory in the Oberliga Südbaden against SG Gutach/Wolfach and now have 6:2 points in their account. In the end there was a well-deserved 27:21 (13:9) in the neighborhood sports hall.
Both teams were highly motivated during the warm-up. However, the hosts got off to a much better start to the game. Which prompted SG coach Oliver Kronenwitter to take an early timeout when the score was 4-1. This time out caused the HBK to lose some of its momentum and the guests equalized to 7:7 in the 14th minute. This was also due to a lack of concentration on the part of HBK, who then repeatedly scored goals in attack with simple moves. And since the defense of coach Patrick Pfeiffer’s team worked very well together again, the hosts went into the half-time break with a 13:9 lead.

Both teams started the second half well and continued to fight for every ball in this intense derby. Things went a little better at SG Gutach/Wolfach, but the mortgage from half one was too big. The visitors were unable to reduce the deficit to less than three goals. Also because the hosts’ defense remained stable, which ultimately was the key to success and which also made coach Pfeiffer happy. In the last seven minutes, the SG was only able to score one goal, and the switch to offensive man-marking was of no use. The HBK was even able to extend its lead.
While Pfeiffer was of course satisfied with his team’s performance and the result, Kronenwitter had problems: “Even our defense was far too full of holes and was always that famous step too late. In addition, there were technical errors in the attack.” But more serious than this derby defeat for the SG, which now has 2:6 points, was the injury to top performer Theresa Schmider.
