The Français du Sang establishment has just launched its first awareness campaign for plasma donation. The objective is to attract new donors and thus make it possible to meet the growing needs of patients. The sample takes between 45 and 60 minutes. All of the 4 stages of the donation take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. In 2021, 17,000 plasma donations are needed in the regions, almost 15% more than in 2020. People with multiple trauma, severe burns, hemophiliacs or even immunocompromised children need the proteins contained in the plasma to be treated. To donate your plasma, you have to go to a donation house. There is one in Besançon.
Who can donate their plasma?
Be at least 18 years old and be under 66 years old
Weigh over 55 kg
Be in possession of an identity document or your donor card available from the 2nd donation on the Blood Donation app.
Sometimes you cannot donate blood, but you can still donate plasma. For example, some trips may contraindicate blood donation while plasma donation remains as often as possible.
In practice
Plasma donation is by appointment only
A donor can donate up to 24 times a year with a 2 week delay between a plasma donation and any other donation
All of the 4 stages of the donation lasts approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
