The exhibition reflects the development of the Riga Group’s creative work, which is related to the search for young painters’ handwriting during the First World War, stylistic manifestations of Cubism and other innovative trends in the 1920s, and the transition to a painting-realistic form of expression in the early 1930s. Art historian Boriss Viper wrote in 1933 that “the exhibitions of the Riga group of artists belong to the most striking phenomena in art life. The group’s artists are united by an undeniable community of stylistic interests, and yet each The members of the group do not like compromises, do not like superficial fashion, do not fabricate paintings for the average civic taste, but really work, look, often doubt and err, but also often come out of the fight as winners. the word sounds most convincing and complete in the exhibitions of the Riga group. “

However, the artists continued to create, and the exhibition also reflects the activities of the group members in the 1940s and 1960s. years both in Latvia and in exile.

In 2020, the 125th anniversary of the group’s first chairman Jēkabs Kazaks was commemorated, and therefore a separate exhibition in the exhibition consists of his paintings, watercolors and drawings.
