Nîmes won last night at Saint-Raphaël (32:31) by reversing the score in the last seconds.
We won’t go so far as to talk about a hold-up, but Nîmes, long behind Saint-Raphaël, snatched the two points at the last second, on a final goal from Jean-Jacques Acquevillo. Previously, Franck Maurice’s men had been lagging behind. Led by three goals from the start, they had dragged their bad start to the match like a cannonball for a good ten minutes before picking up again shortly before halftime. Rémy Desbonnet had for this reason chained two stops before Michaël Guigou equalized on penalty at the buzzer.
The second period was a mano-to-mano between the two teams for a long time. Raphaël Caucheteux missed no penalties, scoring eleven goals in total. It was he who put the Raphaëlois in front of the score in the last ten minutes. But, silent from the 56th minute, the SRVHB would see their advantage of three goals melt like snow in the sun. Two goals from Gallego and a final successful long-range shot from Acquevillo allowed USAM to take valuable points. Because this morning, the people of Nîmes can still hope for a European destiny.
