LMMDV invites to “Jam Session” with composer Kaspars Kurdeko

Kaspars Kurdeko studied at the Jazz Department of the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music. He studied percussion and composition at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, studying with jazz experts such as John Riley, Henry Cole, Dave Libman, Ari Honig, Theo Blackman and Dave Douglass.

The jazz quartet he founded DecoMotion recognized as the best ensemble in the international competition Keep an Eye Jazz Award 2010 In the Netherlands, where the musician himself won the best performer award.

The time spent in New York’s creatively saturated environment has created a musician’s handwriting that reads the influence of different styles of music and art. The drummer is characterized by a sensitive interplay in the ensemble and an energetically vibrating, true and meaningful musical interaction.

Kaspars Kurdeko has composed music for the film Fund for Criminal Excellencefor a modern dance performance Divotne with choreography by Rūta Pūce and Anna Novikova and one-act ballet Just now In the choreography of Elza Leiman. The concept of the “Jam Session” music evening is designed as an event of jazz music, improvisation in a free, relaxed atmosphere.

In the first part, the invited guest artist will perform together with Atis Anderson (keys) and Tomas Poiss (double bass), performing original compositions or popular jazz music in an original arrangement.

In the second part, students of LMMDV Popular and Jazz Music Department will join, performing free improvisations. During the “Jam Session”, visitors have the opportunity to get to know jazz music better, learn in this field and get to know well-known artists in Latvia and Europe.

The event is open to people who can present an interoperable Covid-19 vaccination or disease certificate. You must also present an identity document (passport or ID card) when attending the event.

Admission to the event is free.
