Website pretends to be owned by Facebook

Since November 2021, the scam in connection with child and youth pornographic content has been picking up speed. Criminals send supposed security emails to Facebook users. A link included takes users to a website that pretends to belong to Facebook. The website will prompt for the current password. As soon as users enter their Facebook password, the trap snaps shut.

Criminals use password

The criminals use the stolen password, take over the corresponding Facebook profile and spread child and youth pornographic content via the profile. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or NCMEC for short, is focusing on the rightful owners of the hijacked profiles. This American organization reports suspected cases of German Facebook users to the police in Germany. The police investigations have shown that the illegal access to the profiles is from different countries.

The State Criminal Police Office advises

– Be careful with every email and Facebook Messenger message that contains links.
– Do not click on relevant links and under no circumstances enter your password.
– File a criminal complaint with your local police station.
