Liz Cheney, one of the leading figures in the Republican Party until she became persona non grata because of her fiery criticism of former President Donald Trump, is considering a run with the support of a third party. According to Cheney, a possible return of Trump to power in 2024 could mean the end of American democracy.

Her possible presidential platform, she said, would include honoring America’s international security commitments, which she says Trump and House Republicans have jeopardized.

“A few years ago, I wouldn’t have considered a third-party run … but I think democracy is at risk at home, obviously as a result of Donald Trump’s continued grip on the Republican Party, and I think democracy is also at risk internationally,” Cheney said before the washington post on Monday. She participated in the creation of the special commission of the House of Representatives, which was investigating the storming of the Capitol on January 6.

Cheney has said for months that her primary goal is to ensure Trump loses in the 2024 election. Earlier this year, she told MBC News that she would not launch her own campaign if it would divide voters who oppose it. Trump, and she wouldn’t do anything to help him.

“We are facing threats that could be existential to the United States, and we need a candidate who will be able to face all of these challenges and deal with them. All of that will go into the calculations that I will make as I we are entering the first months of 2024.”

She described the situation to USA Today as “extremely dire” and said it was necessary now for “independents, Republicans and Democrats to come together in a way that can help form a new coalition that includes the possibility of to a third party.” Cheney told The Washington Post that he will make a final decision on his candidacy in the coming months.

According to her, founding a new conservative party is more realistic than “rebuilding the current Republican Party, which … looks like a very difficult, if not impossible, task.” She also told USA Today that she would consider running with bipartisan support, but not joining a so-called “unification” ballot that could be put forward by the group No Labels if it appeared that it would help elect Trump.

The former Wyoming House member’s vocal criticism of Trump after Jan. 6 and his efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss led to the end of her congressional career; she was defeated in the Wyoming GOP primary last year by Trump-backed Harriet Hagerman.

In his book “Oath and Honor: A Memoir and a Warning,” which focuses on the implications of the 2020 race and the events surrounding Jan. 6, Cheney described Trump as “the most dangerous man to ever occupy the Oval Office.” The book was released on the American market on December 5.

“There is a majority of voters in this country who are too responsible to trust Donald Trump with the authority of the White House and the authority of the presidency,” she told The Washington Post. According to Cheney, a big part of the task for 24 years is “talking to these people and just making sure they know the facts.”

In a recent social media post, Trump called Cheney “crazy” who suffers from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” after previously saying that “to look at her is to despise her.”
