Liwa Dates Festival and Auction: Competitions, Activities, and Prizes for 2023

Al Dhafra, September 21 / WAM / Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, the competitions and activities of the Liwa Dates Festival and Auction, in its second session, which continues until September 30, began today, Thursday, in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra Region.

The festival – which on its first day received 15 tons and 748 kilograms of luxury dates coming from state farms produced this year – is organized by the Cultural and Heritage Festivals and Programs Management Committee in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Emirates Heritage Club.
The Liwa Elite Dates Competition recorded the participation of more than 36 farmers who provided 4,500 kilograms of dates, while the Dates Packaging Competition (without filling) recorded the participation of 96 producers who provided 2,024 packages weighing 4,048 kilograms.

The date auction also recorded 2,400 packages of dates (weighing 3 kilograms) from 90 farmers, weighing 7,200 kilograms, and the Sidr honey competition (local round) recorded the participation of 45 participants from honey producers in the country.
The Liwa Dates Festival and Auction includes 19 various competitions for which 156 prizes have been allocated, with a value exceeding 4 million dirhams. These include 8 date competitions within the main competition, “Elite Date Decoration”, Liwa, Dabbas, Khalas, Fard, Shishi, Bu Maan, packaging of dates without additives, packaging of stuffed dates and 5 Honey competitions: liquid honey, wax tablet, crystallized honey, local Sidr honey, local Samar honey, and 4 photography and drawing competitions within the categories of palm trees and dates, and the Al Dhafra environment, in addition to the international olive oil and international cooking competitions.
The festival site includes pavilions for sponsors and supporters, pavilions for Emirati artists, agricultural shops, a date market, coffee carts, a heritage village, a children’s studio, a date auction arena (the main competition in the festival), a date auction that begins daily at 5 p.m., and a honey village. , the Jordanian Dates Village, the International Cooking Corner, the International Olive Oil Corner, the Al Dhafra Exhibition in the Eyes of the International Press, the Photo Gallery, and the Paintings (Drawing) Exhibition.
The festival opens its doors to visitors daily from four in the afternoon until ten in the evening, and offers a group of heritage and entertainment activities designed for visitors in the events and competitions arena and the main theater, which witnesses awareness lectures and the announcement of the results of the winners of the daily competitions.
