Living with Parkinson’s disease. Meeting on September 27

Parkinson’s disease is the fastest growing brain disease in the world. In the Netherlands, 63,500 people live with Parkinson’s disease. There are no less than 10,000,000 worldwide. On Friday, September 27, Mantelzorg Berg en Dal organizes an informative meeting about living with Parkinson’s disease. This meeting is between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm in Het Kulturhus, Roerdompstraat 6 in Beek. Check-in is from 1:30 p.m. This afternoon, Berg en Dal informal care will provide information about Parkinson’s disease so that residents have a better understanding of what this disease involves. They pay more attention to what this means for their loved ones or the informal carer. You’ll hear more about the symptoms, heredity, age and risk, what it’s like, and especially what it means in life after a diagnosis for someone with Parkinson’s and their loved ones. The evening is for informal carers and those they care for, but other interested people are very welcome. The meeting is free. Would you like to come? You can register until September 20. Above Parkinson

Professor of neurological movement disorders and Parkinson’s disease specialist Bas Bloem from the Radboud university medical center: “With this growth, there will be almost thirteen million people in the world with Parkinson’s disease by 2040. We have to do something about this urgently, because Parkinson’s disease is one of the most serious brain diseases in the world.”

“Parkinson’s is a very complex disease that originates in the brain, but the way the disease manifests itself is not the same for everyone. It affects men and women, young and old. Each of them has their own Parkinson’s disease. From shaking hands and depression to standing on nails to the floor and no longer showing initiative. Treatment and management of Parkinson’s Disease requires a very specific and experienced approach. The needs and wishes of the person with Parkinson’s and their loved ones must be explored again and again” (Parkinsonnet source).
