If the resurgence of bedbugs is worrying in France, the city of New York in the United States, more severely infected, has put in place several protocols to limit their spread.
They learned to live with it. While France has experienced a resurgence of bedbugs since 2017, the city of New York in the United States is the second most infested in the country. Hotels, schools, hospitals… “Big Apple” has put in place various protocols to fight against this scourge.
“You can control the infestation of bed bugs, but you can’t eliminate them,” said Scott Palatnik, a bed bug control specialist in New York with from the Parisian.
Measures included in the law
In 2010, New York City had only around fifteen companies fighting against this pest, today there are more than a hundred.
The law also requires owners to inform tenants or potential buyers of the presence of bedbugs over the last twelve months, even when the problem has since been resolved. In addition, if a resident wishes to get rid of their mattress, they must absolutely wrap it in a plastic cover.
Same line for hotels, for example, which have implemented strict protocols by asking specialized companies to inspect their bedding several times a month.
Finally, a site was created by the city encouraging anyone with bedbugs in their home to notify their neighbors as quickly as possible. If New York cannot eradicate this phenomenon, the city has had to learn to live with it.
