Living on the harsh planet Mars, humans need to be modified like cyborgs

LONDON – Idea to live in Planet Mars though it sounds like a science fiction movie, NASA and SpaceX remains serious about making it happen. Even though humans will face tough challenges if they live on the planet Mars, which has different characteristics from Earth.

Given the many challenges faced on the planet Mars for humans to live there, it is necessary to develop various technologies in order to adapt. A British astronomer Lord Martin Rees conveyed the idea for humans to modify robots, like cyborg films, to be able to survive on Mars.

“We don’t know what mix they will make of flesh and blood and electronics, but if they go electronic then of course they could approach immortality. They will use all these techniques to adjust,” he said, quoted by SINDOnews from the dailymail page, Monday (30/5/2022).

So do future Martians really need to be cyborgs? Of course at this time no one has been able to answer for sure. However, if the technology to become a cyborg materializes, it will most likely be able to adapt to the tough challenges on the planet Mars.

Among them, survive in microgravity, adapt to the climate, and breathe on the planet Mars. One of the biggest challenges for human colonists is staying fit and healthy on Mars, as astronauts also experience bone and muscle changes in space.

Research has shown that the transition from one gravitational field to another can affect spatial orientation, head-eye and hand-eye coordination, balance and locomotion.

NASA is looking at several ways to keep astronauts healthy during missions to Mars, including artificial gravity devices and vibration platforms to help regenerate bones and muscles.
