Office at China fired after an outrage that an elderly patient (elderly) was put in a body bag even though he was still alive. A number of officials are also still being questioned regarding this incident.
Reported BBC, Thursday (5/5/2022), District authorities in China sacked four officials after an elderly patient from a nursing home in Shanghai was believed to have died and was put in a body bag. As it turned out, the patient was still alive.
The incident went viral after a video emerged showing two suspected morgue workers placing body bags into vehicles. The workers were then seen pulling one of the body bags.
After the body bag was opened, someone was heard saying that the patient was still alive. The incident sparked outrage on Chinese social media.
Officials in Shanghai’s Putuo district confirmed the incident late Monday. He said the patient had been taken to hospital and was in stable condition.
District authorities said five officials and one doctor were being investigated. The identity of the patient himself is still unknown.
In addition, four officials, including the deputy director of the local civil affairs bureau and the director of a nursing home, were fired. A doctor, identified by their surname Tian, has also been stripped of his medical license.
