Livia Carrión, a 66-year-old epidemiologist from the Ruiz y Páez University Hospital Complex in Ciudad Bolívar, died this Saturday after several days with complications from the covid-19.
Public figures such as Henrique Capriles Radonski spoke out about Carrión’s death, and called on the competent authorities to take sanitary measures to protect health personnel in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic.
The political leader asked himself: “How many more doctors have to die for the regime to do something? Real measures must be taken to protect them and our people! Enough of politicking ”.
Carrión practiced her career for more than 35 years and held the position of director of Epidemiology at the Institute of Public Health.
After leaving office, and despite having years of service to retire, the doctor continued to provide support in the care of those infected with the coronavirus. As a consequence, she contracted the disease and spent three weeks in intensive care at the hospital.
