Local transport suffers from a lack of staff – lines are being cancelled
Transport companies in Lower Saxony are suffering from a lack of staff. In some cases, buses or trains are canceled as a result of a query by the German Press Agency. The city of Göttingen is particularly affected: three bus lines will be completely canceled there until further notice.
The reason for the tense situation is a high level of sick leave, said a spokeswoman for the Göttingen transport company. Other bus lines in Göttingen would therefore only be served to a limited extent. The Hessian train operator Cantus also recently had train cancellations, including on the route between Kassel and Göttingen, as reported by the North Hessian transport association. Those who can should reschedule trips or use alternative routes. According to the company, the Metronom railway company, which operates in Hamburg and Lower Saxony, lost around 60 connections on Friday alone.
There are problems with bus traffic in the Hameln-Pyrmont district. Rides there have recently been canceled at short notice, as a spokeswoman for the local transport company said. The reasons are the same as elsewhere: illness, vacation, corona quarantine. For some lines, individual departures have therefore been canceled or the frequency increased. According to a spokeswoman, there are also failures on individual lines and trips by buses and trains in the area of the Braunschweig Region Transport Association: “Overall, only very few lines are affected and not every day.” Among other things, if the number of corona infections decreases again, an improvement in the situation can be expected.
However, the difficulties cannot be transferred to the entire federal state. “We don’t have any problems of this kind at the moment,” said the transport company Regiobus Hannover. In the districts of Göttingen, Northeim and Holzminden, there are still no failures, at least for the regional bus lines, as reported by the transport association Verkehrsverbund Süd-Niedersachsen.
