Livestream: The bridge arch takes its place on the pillar

No wind, hardly any fog and the Danube has a low flow speed. The conditions on the second day of the swim-in are ideal. “At 8 o’clock the swimming platforms started moving. We will probably be able to put the arch on the pillar in the early afternoon,” says Sepp Maier, project manager at Linz AG, who supports the city of Linz.

The 2800-ton giant has already traveled across the Danube. The floating platforms, called pontoons, moved slowly with their heavy load in the morning towards the piers. They didn’t have much space. There is only 25 centimeters of space between the second arch of the bridge, which has been installed since the end of February, and the section of the bank on the Linz side. “It’s like reversing a truck and trailer into a very small garage,” says Maier.

When the arch is placed on the pillar in the afternoon, it is connected to the second arch. The dismantling work on Urfahraner Ufer is to begin in spring.
