Naby Keita’s time at English Premier League club Liverpool FC is no longer just a vague rumour. For weeks it has been said from those around his employer that the former transfer star from RB Leipzig is leaving the Red’s. Maybe towards the Bundesliga.
Under 20 games per season
The first speculations arose last summer that Borussia Dortmund was interested. This is also in a possible exchange with Jude Bellingham, who is being traded as a potential new player in coach Jürgen Klopp’s team. Keita’s contract expires in the summer, so he would be free.
This fact would be beneficial for a transfer back to the German elite league, because the Guinean is just as talented as he is prone to injury. This season he suffered the entire first series until the end of December with a hamstring injury. In four and a half years he only played 80 games for the Reds, an average of less than 20 per season. The central midfielder scored a total of eleven goals and only played seven.
Most recently, the 27-year-old was used in four games in a row, including three defeats and a draw. For this reason, too, Keita should leave the club in order to enable the team to be rebuilt in the summer.
Market value dropped by 40 million euros
In Leipzig, the dynamic sweeper and driver became a star in just two years. In 58 league games for RB between 2016 and 2018, he scored 14 goals and prepared 13 goals. Liverpool FC paid a high price at the time and paid 60 million euros, but Keita could never do justice to this sum.
When Liverpool got the right foot from Leipzig, its market value was 65 million euros according to “transfermarkt.de”. He didn’t get any higher. On the contrary: Keita is currently listed at 20 million euros – and will probably soon be looking for a club.
