Liverpool –
Juergen Klopp with a heavy heart let go Jordan Henderson. But, according to Klopp, there are always partings in life.
Henderson ended his tenure as a Liverpool player after being released to the Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq with a tag of 12 million pounds. Henderson is bound by a three-year contract with a salary reportedly reaching 700 thousand pounds per week.
Henderson’s sudden departure certainly surprised many. Even though Henderson is Liverpool captain and is still under contract until 2025.
However, one-on-one talks with Klopp about his role in the team next season changed everything. Henderson may be aware that his time at Liverpool will not be much longer.
So he also accepted Al Ettifaq’s offer which made Liverpool sad because they lost their flagship player. However, Klopp asked Liverpool to be able to adapt as soon as possible without Henderson’s presence.
“For now it’s fine, but because it happened yesterday, so we have time to adapt and get used to it. This is football, this is life, it’s normal how this kind of thing happens. When we returned to Liverpool on Monday, Hendo was already waiting for us to say goodbye to the team and also the coaching staff. A good move,” said Klopp on the club’s official website.
“I know it’s a very, very tough decision for Hendo and I’ll always be with him. It’s sad, it’s really strange, because he was the only captain I had during my time at Liverpool, but I think it will be an interesting adventure for him. We will miss him for sure, that’s clear – as a person and as a player. But like I said, this is football.”
