Liverpool –
Liverpool lost Andy Robertson for quite a long time. Who do you think should replace him?
Robertson had to undergo surgery on his right shoulder after the Spain vs Scotland match in the Euro 2024 qualifiers last week.
This action requires Robertson to rest for at least the next 10-12 weeks. That means Robertson will at least be able to play again until January next year at the earliest.
Robertson’s absence is certainly detrimental to Liverpool, who rely heavily on him in the left-back sector. Robertson has appeared eight times in all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
Not only is he skilled at attacking and defending, Robertson is also skilled at executing set pieces. The question now is, which player will fill Robertson’s post?
If you look at the current squad, it is clear that Kostas Tsimikas is the first option, because he is the only replacement for Robertson in the left back position.
The defender from Greece is also skilled at set pieces and immediately fits into Juergen Klopp’s favorite 4-3-3 formation. If he plays a three-defender formation, Joe Gomez will likely play alongside Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz is likely to fill the left wing-back position.
“Thank God we don’t just have Kostas because we would definitely be short considering the tight number of matches,” said Klopp in Sky Sports.
“Joe Gomez can play in that position. Luka Chambers and several young players have shown off during training.”
“You need lots of options and Kostas is the most experienced, which is good. But he can’t play all the time, so we have to have other options. We have to be able to play them all.”
