The Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) announced the winners of the awards corresponding to the 2020 season, recently concluded with the consecration of the National Football Club. Just coming from the white team, the championship scorer, Gonzalo Bergessio, was chosen as the best player. The highlight comes after a season in which he scored 25 goals, four of them to give his team the title in the finals with Rentistas.
There is a team
In the ideal team there was also room for Bergessio and two other tricolor players. The club that had the most presence in the ideal 11 was Liverpool, with four footballers. Montevideo City Torque was the other team with multiple appearances in this selection, while Rentistas and Peñarol contributed one player to each club.
The line-up chosen as the best of the tournament is made up of: Sergio Rochet (National); Franco Pizzichillo (Torque), Federico Pereira (Liverpool), Yonatthan Rak (Torque), Camilo Cándido (Liverpool); Gonzalo Vega (Rentistas), Hernán Figueredo (Liverpool), Emiliano Martínez (National), David Terans (Peñarol); Juan Ignacio Ramírez (Liverpool) and Gonzalo Bergessio (National).
Substitutes were also included for this roster: Sebastián Lentinelly (Liverpool), Franco Romero (Liverpool), Joaquín Piquerez (Peñarol), Felipe Carballo (Nacional), Marcelo Allende (Torque), Facundo Torres (Peñarol), Matías Arezo (River Plate) and Facundo Batista (Deportivo Maldonado).
Awards and more awards
Deportivo Maldonado only had one member in this select group, and he is among the substitutes. It was precisely Facundo Batista, who won the Young Talent award as an individual distinction.
The best goal selected was converted by Agustín Ocampo in the victory of his team, Liverpool, 3-2 over Cerro Largo on February 10 of this year, on date 6 of the Clausura Tournament in Belvedere.
Also in Belvedere and also in Liverpool it was the best save of the season. Sebastián Lentinelly stopped what would have been the winning goal for Peñarol, in the match that ended in a 1-1 draw on date 10 of the Clausura.
Facundo Torres was recognized as the Best Newcomer and also won the distinction of Player of the Public, chosen by the fans. The youth of Peñarol was one of the high points of his team. The coal team was the least beaten fence in the regular season, having conceded 36 goals. Kevin Dawson defended the goal for 34 games, Thiago Cardozo was present in four other games and Martín Correa in one.
Pablo Marini, coach of Montevideo City Torque, was selected as the best in his field after a campaign in which he fought at the top of the Annual Table and achieved qualification for the Copa Sudamericana, being a few dates from the end in the fight for a quota to access the Copa Libertadores.
For two goalkeepers, the recognition of being the footballers with the most minutes on the court was reserved. They were Gonzalo Falcón (Boston River) and Danilo Lerda (Deportivo Maldonado), who completed a total of 3,240 minutes in 36 games played.
The Fair Play award went to Boston River. Christian Ferreyra as main referee and Carlos Barreiro as assistant were the recognized professionals in their field.
