Real Madrid will meet Liverpool in the final Liga Champions this season. For Carlo Ancelottithis match is just like derby Merseyside.
Ancelotti is known to have coached Everton which is Liverpool’s city rivals for a season and a half, to be precise from December 21, 2019 to June 1, 2021. Although they did not win the title, their influence on the performance of The Toffees was felt.
In the middle of the 2019/20 season, Ancelotti came to Everton which was in chaos and struggling at the bottom, even had time to enter the red zone. But under his tutelage, Richarlison et al finished in 12th position with 49 points at the end of the season.
In the 2020/21 season, Everton managed to be brought by Ancelotti to finish in 10th position by collecting 59 points. He also polished Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be even sharper in front of goal, scoring a total of 21 goals, earning him a place in the England squad for Euro 2020.
Don’t forget, while being coached by Ancelotti, Everton also recorded good results when they met Liverpool. In four meetings, the Toffees won once and drew twice in the Premier League, and lost once in the FA Cup.
When Madrid managed to ensure themselves to the Champions League final to meet Liverpool, Ancelotti was immediately reminded of the Merseyside derby. He is certainly determined to extend his positive record when he met the Reds.
“I’m very happy to be back in the (Champions League) final, against a team as great as Liverpool,” Ancelotti said, quoted by ESPN.
“I faced Liverpool as a player in 1984 (the Champions Cup final), then (as a coach) in 2005, 2007, and now they meet again. I stayed at Liverpool for two years. an Evertonian,” explained Don Carlo.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid will be held at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis, France on Sunday (29/5/2022) at 02.00 WIB.
