Liverpool have rejected Southampton’s bid for Fábio Carvalho, but that doesn’t mean the deal is closed, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports.
The versatile attacking player – capable of playing on both wings, in the centre of attack and as a number 10 – was a target for the Premier League newcomer last winter after an unsuccessful loan spell at RB Leipzig.
Ultimately, the battle for a temporary transfer for the winter-spring season was won by Hull City, where the player has definitely come alive. The proof is in his very good statistics at Championship level: nine goals and two assists in 20 games.
The Portugal youth international is currently on a training camp in the United States, where he is trying to impress the Reds’ new boss Arne Slot, and last night he even scored in the 3-0 friendly win over Manchester United.

Liverpool may have other plans for the Fulham graduate. According to Ornstein, the Anfield club have received a £15 million (€17.67 million) offer from Southampton for the 21-year-old.
The option presented in this form was rejected. Activists noted that the offer must be much larger to even be considered.
The situation may still change. It all depends on the individual conversation between Slot and Carvalho after his return to England. It should be emphasized that there is fierce competition for the first team. The Dutchman has at his disposal, among others, Darwin Núñez, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones and even the well-performing attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Carvalho’s contract with his current employer provides for cooperation until mid-2027.
