Darwin Nunez has this season grown into a key player in Liverpool. With his nine goals and seven assists in 24 PL games, he is a strong contributing factor to the Merseyside club topping the league.
But it could have been different.
The Times claims that Chelsea bid for the Uruguayan this summer – something that Liverpool snubbed. Nunez’s last season was seen as somewhat of a failure by many, and speculation that the 24-year-old was on his way out was rife.
The paper further states that Chelsea boss Paul Winstanley is a long-time admirer of Darwin Nunez, and that he was the one who pushed for the bid. But Liverpool rejected the bid immediately, according to The Times.
Instead, Chelsea raked in strikers Deivid Washington and Nicolas Jackson during the summer transfer window.
