Liverpool now go out and criticize their own supporters after securing the gold medal.
After thousands of fans gathered in town to celebrate the first ever 30-year championship, the club is reaching out with a clear message to the fans.
– Last week, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, the municipality and Spirit of Shankly worked together to remind residents that the region is severely affected by the corona pandemic. We have asked people to celebrate the championship safely. Thousands of people showed up at Pier Head Friday, and many chose to disregard the recommendations to stay away. Our city is still in a health crisis and this behavior is totally unacceptable, writes Liverpool in a press release also signed by the police and the municipality.
Will wait
The celebration was described as “out of control” by local newspaper Liverpool Echo. Mayor Joe Anderson suggested he was considering imposing a curfew in the city.
“The danger of a new corona outbreak is present, and we must work together and make sure that everything we did during the region’s closure was not in vain,” the press release states.
Since mass patterns are not allowed, the club will wait to celebrate the gold.
– When it is safe, we will arrange a victory parade where everyone can join in the celebration. But until that can happen, the health and safety of everyone in the city is our priority.
The police have a hopeless task of getting people to disperse. About 20 people will be arrested after the celebration is depleted.
