Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp believes striker Kodi Gakpo could be the only deal for his side this month, and has said the club cannot play a “lucky bank” in the transfer window and that he trusts the players available to him in the team at the present tense.
With wingers Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota absent through injury, Liverpool have signed Jakpo, who scored three goals for the Netherlands in last season’s World Cup, from Eindhoven for around £37m ($44.67m) ).
And the German coach said: I don’t want to let anyone down, but we signed a great player like Cody Gakbo and then read right after (who’s next?)
He added: We can’t play as a fortune bank. We never will. It’s a big part of my philosophy to work with and fully trust available players, not keep telling them we need players in their positions.
After a frustrating start to the season, Liverpool are 15 points behind leaders Arsenal, but have won their last four league games to finish sixth and ahead of facing Brentford on Monday.
