Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Covid-19.
This is confirmed by the Swiss Football Association in a press release.
Last week it was revealed that Thiago Alcantara and Sadio Mane had also tested positive for the coronavirus.
Shaqiri was selected in the Swiss national team squad and was scheduled to play a national match against Croatia on Wednesday, before the Nations League matches against Spain and Germany on Saturday and Tuesday next week.
The Liverpool player is now in isolation, the Swiss Football Association writes in the press release. Shaqiri will now follow the local health authorities’ protocols about the coronavirus.
Shaqiri was brought to Liverpool in 2018. Last season was marked by a lot of injuries and little playing time for the fast winger, and on the last day of the transfer window on Monday, he was rumored to be away from Liverpool.
But the Swiss has remained in the Merseyside club. This season he has played a match for the Reds, a league cup match where he also scored one goal.
