Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah wants his new contract with FC Liverpool to reflect his contribution to the club. The 29-year-old striker said he was not asking his team for anything “crazy” about extending the contract, just a fair assessment of his qualities.
The current contract with “The Reds” will expire Salah in 18 months. The gunner repeated several times that his stay or possible departure from Anfield is only in the hands of the club. According to British media, Salah is asking for a weekly salary of over £ 300,000 (around € 359,000).
This would significantly strain Liverpool’s salary budget and at the same time represent a significant change in the policy of the club, which has so far refused to give lucrative contracts to players over the age of 30.
Salah came to the English club in 2017 from AS Roma, scoring 111 goals in 165 league appearances in the Liverpool jersey. He has scored 16 times this year in 20 games and is well on his way to winning the Golden Football Premier League scorer, which he would receive for the third time in five years.
“I want to stay on the team, but it’s not in my hands. It’s in the hands of club officials. They know what I want. I’m not asking for any crazy things.” Salah told GQ magazine. “I’ve been playing for Liverpool for the fifth season, I know the club very well. I love the local fans and they love me. But everyone knows the club’s politics. It’s purely up to them.” the AFP agency quoted the striker who currently represents his country at the African Nations Cup (APN) in Cameroon.
