Liverpool Loses Joel Matip until the End of the Season

Liverpool

Defender Liverpool Joel Matip should end the 2020/2021 season sooner. He was forced to step aside due to an ankle injury.

Through its official website, Tuesday (2/2/2021) morning WIB, Liverpool reported Joel Matip’s condition. The Reds said the former Cameroon national team player suffered an injury to the ankle ligament.

The results of the examination confirmed that Matip had to be absent until the end of the season. The 29-year-old footballer has extended the list of badly injured Liverpool defenders, following Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

“Unfortunately, after all checking, we know that Joel will be out for the rest of the season,” said the Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp as quoted from the official Liverpool website.

“But he will be ready for the start of next season and eventually things will be sorted out.”

Juergen Klopp said Joel Matip injured after trying to stop Son Heung-min in the match against Tottenham Hotspur, Friday (29/1/2021) early morning WIB. Klopp also admitted that Matip played this season in a condition that was not fully fit.

“In the end, we have to admit that he might,” said Klopp

“It’s really unlucky because actually it was a good effort from him. He saved us at that moment in the match against Tottenham when he won the duel against Son,” he continued.

“But he injured his ankle and he played all the time and is now out until the end of the season, so you can imagine how much he tries to stay on the pitch and help us.”

“We’ll be waiting for him. Now he has the rest of the season, then the summer, and the pre-season to get ready again and he will be ready again,” said Klopp.

Despite losing Joel Matip until the end of the season, Liverpool can breathe a little relieved because he has got a new defender. They recruited two defenders at once, Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak, on the last day of the January transfer window.
