Liverpool is excluded from the UNESCO World Heritage List / Article

The British city of Liverpool is excluded from the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List. Experts believe that the new buildings undermine the authenticity of the historic ensemble.

Part of Liverpool was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2004 as a historic trading center. It shows revolutionary achievements in port development and management and in the design of transport systems.

UNESCO officials say new buildings, including a football stadium, are diminishing the attractiveness of Victorian-era docks. The organization does not want to restrict the development of the city, but it must be coordinated with experts.

Meanwhile, the head of Liverpool City Council, Joanna Anderson, has stated that the decision is incomprehensible and expressed hope that it will be possible to challenge it.

So far, only two sites have lost their World Heritage status. As a result of edge hunting in the reserve in Oman, biodiversity was reduced, but a four-lane motorway bridge over the Elbe near Dresden in Germany damaged the landscape. Removal from the list damages their image and deprives them of access to UN funds.
