Wolverhampton

Bad start, Liverpool comeback and win 3-1 over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The victory was achieved thanks to Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and Hugo Bueno’s own goal.

From Wolverhampton vs Liverpool in the continuation of the Premier League taking place at Molineux, Saturday (16/9/2023) evening WIB. Liverpool were immediately overwhelmed from the start by the hosts’ aggressive pressing.

Wolverhampton’s quick transition then allowed Liverpool to concede in the seventh minute. Score 1-0 for Wolves’ lead lasted until halftime.

Liverpool improved in the second half. The introduction of Luis Diaz livened up their attack and led to an equalizer from Cody Gakpo.

That momentum continued, also boosted by the entry of Darwin Nunez. In the process, Liverpool got two additional goals from Robertson and Elliott’s shot which hit Bueno.

With this victory, Liverpool temporarily rose to the top of the Premier League standings with 13 points from five matches. Wolves remain in 15th position with three points.

The Course of the Match

Liverpool were immediately troubled by Wolverhampton’s pressing after the kickoff. The hosts did not let Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister feel comfortable holding the ball and controlling the game.

GOAL! Wolves took the lead in the seventh minute. Through a quick attack from the left side, Pedro Neto escaped and sent a cross which Hwang Hee-chan just pushed into the goal.

Liverpool tried to develop the game. However, aggressive pressure on their two pivots, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, made it difficult to build attacks.

Almost! Liverpool almost conceded a second goal in the 34th minute. Neto again escaped on the left and fired a cross which fell straight to Matheus Cunha. But Cunha failed to predict the fall of the ball correctly, in the end the ball was released and secured by Liverpool’s defense.

Liverpool still cannot register a threat against Wolverhampton’s goal. Cody Gakpo’s kick from Andy Robertson’s pass in the 38th minute still deviated far from the target.

Another opportunity from Liverpool in the 46th minute, when the visitors caused chaos in the opponent’s goal. Mohamed Salah’s shot was blocked by a Wolves defender and the wild ball was again struck by Szoboszlai, who this time was cleared by the goalkeeper. The first round ends.

GOAL! Liverpool got a goal at the start of the second half, to be precise in the 55th minute. Salah received the ball on the right and released a horizontal pass which was cheated by Cody Gakpo.

Cakpo’s goal and the introduction of Luis Diaz-Darwin Nunez provided momentum for Liverpool. Several times the Diaz-Nunez combination on the left created good situations, although it did not yet threaten the home goal.

A neat opportunity from Liverpool in the 70th minute. Starting from the right, Salah sent the ball to the middle and continued with a one-two collaboration from Nunez-Diaz. It’s just that Nunez’s shot was blocked by the goalkeeper!

Szoboszlai’s long-range effort in the 75th minute still didn’t reach the goal. His shot went wide to the left.

GOAL! Liverpool took the lead in the 86th minute. Jose Sa tried to play a quick long pass from the goal, but it ended fatally.

The ball fell to Andy Robertson, who then pushed forward. He exchanged passes with Salah and calmly tipped the ball into the net from close range.

GOAL! Liverpool increased their lead to 3-1 in the 91st minute. Salah received Nunez’s pass on the right, then passed it to Harvey Elliott. From the front of the penalty box, his shot ended in the bottom right corner of the goal.
