Liverpool buy Cody Gakpo from PSV in the winter of 2023. The Reds bought him for 42 million Euros or the equivalent of IDR 707 billion.
The 24 year old player has his original position as a center forward. However, Gakpo is often rotated in his position by manager Juergen Klopp.
Former Liverpool player, Michael Owen understands what Cody Gakpo feel it. Honestly, Gakpo, isn’t it nice to rotate your position on the field?
“The manager will decide in which position a player will play. For Gakpo, that is the only way to steal Klopp’s heart,” he explained to TNT.
“It would be stupid if a player knocked on the manager’s door and said, ‘I can only play in this position’,” he continued.
Michael Owen explained, competition in the attack line Liverpool very tight. There is the irreplaceable Mohamed Salah, then there is Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and even Luis Diaz.
“It’s good for him to be versatile. If he wants to be Liverpool’s top player, Gakpo has to prove himself. Right now, he fits in the middle,” he said.
“It’s difficult to replace Mo Salah. So now, Gakpo has to do a lot of talking on the pitch.
The Dutch player has made 42 appearances in all competitions with Liverpool. Gakpo has recorded 13 goals and four assists.
