Liverpool coach talks about returning to Germany

Jürgen Klopp celebrated the greatest successes of his career in England by winning the Champions and the Premier League. A return to Germany is still planned.

Coach Jürgen Klopp will return to Germany at some point. “Definitely to live, after my career. Most likely even to Mainz,” said Klopp in an interview with SWR Sport on Sunday. The current coach of the English champions was in the Rhineland-Palatinate capital FC Liverpool from 1990 to 2008 first worked as a player and then as a coach.

After Liverpool “nothing for a year”

The 53-year-old has led the traditional English club Liverpool to the first championship title in 30 years. Klopp is still floating on cloud nine. It will probably take some time before this feeling of happiness has settled. But the time window is not important because the title is “for eternity. It is much better than not being a master”.

Klopp confirmed his position with the Reds until 2024 – then his run after winning the Champions League extended contract in Liverpool last year. “Four years in Liverpool,” said Klopp. After that, after nine years on Anfield Road, he wanted to “do nothing for a year,” said the soccer coach.

Perhaps for the first time he would then be able to do “what I want, what I want to do. Maybe a club, a national team or nothing at all”. According to SWR, he added smugly: “But in five years the world can look very different again.”

When visiting home, Klopp is “looking forward to going back to the restaurant and enjoying the new normal in Germany”.
