Irish photographer Tom Wood, known for his documentary photos of daily life in and around Liverpool, will be on display from October 25 at the Galerie de l’Ancienne Poste.
His works, mostly produced between the 1970s and 1990s, offer an intimate look at the working class, avoiding the usual clichés of social photography. Nicknamed “Photie Man” by the locals, he is especially known for his spontaneous portraits of passers-byhis series on buses and his street scenes, which reflect Thatcherite and post-Thatcherite England.
The exhibition Every day is Saturday : portraits anglais revolves around of three series of photographsinspired by emblematic events or places dissected through the lens of Tom Wood: the closure of the Cammell Laird shipyard, the portrait of a youth frequenting the Chelsea Reach, a New Brighton nightclub and finally, the course of the legendary Liverpool Football Club.
